CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC
Summary
With 20 currently listed for sale and an average price of $30,995 CAD, 35.0% of 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC 4.69 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC stands out as a compact luxury SUV that blends style, comfort, and practicality in a way that feels distinctly Mercedes-Benz. It shares many parts with the C-Class sedan and wagon, and its shape is described as a raised version of the C-Class wagon, which gives it a more elegant look than the boxier SUV it replaced. It is also longer and sleeker, with improved rear-seat space and a larger cargo area, so it feels more useful without losing its premium character. In Canada, 4Matic all-wheel drive was standard from the start, and the model line was small and straightforward, centred on the GLC 300, the AMG GLC 43, and the plug-in hybrid GLC 350e.
For 2018, the GLC’s appeal also came from its mix of comfort and equipment. The standard GLC 300 used a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower, while the AMG GLC 43 brought a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 with 362 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid added an electric motor for a total system output of 320 hp. Buyers also got a nine-speed automatic transmission, and the GLC Coupe offered a more rakish profile while keeping almost as much practicality as the standard body style. That said, the GLC was not aimed at hard-core off-road use, and its reliability reputation was not especially strong, with owners noting suspension and electrical issues as well as piston and cylinder problems on some GLC 300 models.
What makes the 2018 GLC especially appealing is that it delivers a premium feel without being overly complicated. It was praised for comfort, luxury, build quality, and a spacious interior, and it offered advanced technology and strong safety equipment for the class. At the same time, some buyers may be put off by high fuel consumption and the fact that Apple CarPlay was not included, so it is best suited to shoppers who value refinement, everyday usability, and a polished luxury experience over outright excitement or low running costs.

I love the features the car comes with, all for a reasonable value. Personally for me, the car is missing that lane departure steering wheel rumble and fog lamps would've been nice.

Comfortable ride and spacious for its class. I love the technology integrated with the vehicle. Only downside with this, however, is that Mercedes Benz does not offer CarPlay. Its not a deal breaker thought because blue tooth works just as well alongside the USB port for the media player. I traded in my 07 Targa 4 for this vehicle and do not regret it. Its been a great purchase for my family and our 4-legged fur baby.

No comparison. Like nothing I’ve ever driven or owned. I would highly recommend the Mercedes brand and especially the GLC 300 if you want an elegant SUV.

Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?
Yes — 4.69/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. Drivers consistently praise its comfort, luxury, and build quality, and they also highlight the spacious interior and advanced technology. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a compact luxury SUV that feels polished and useful for everyday driving rather than overly complicated. With 38.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a vehicle that many owners enjoy living with over time, especially for its comfort and premium feel. At the same time, the broader ownership picture includes concerns around suspension, electrical, piston, and cylinder issues, so reliability is not the model’s strongest calling card. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully, especially if you want a low-drama luxury SUV.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 261 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.96% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $24,152 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?
The current average of $24,240 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,173 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the vehicle more attractive to buyers now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you buy at the current average, you are entering at a lower point than last year’s market. For resale, that can help if prices stabilise, but it also means you should be realistic about how quickly value may recover.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.96% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a compact luxury SUV with a premium feel, strong owner satisfaction, and a market that currently offers some pricing flexibility, the 2018 is a sensible choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years as well, but the 2018 stands out as the better pick when you value comfort, refinement, and a well-liked ownership experience.
