CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda CX-3
Summary
With 128 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,068 CAD, 23.4% of 2018 Mazda CX-3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda CX-3 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda CX-3 stands out as a small crossover that leans heavily into Mazda’s sporty character. It was Mazda’s second subcompact SUV, and it did not immediately replace the smaller CX-3 that had been around since 2016. For buyers who want a compact vehicle with a premium feel, the CX-3’s appeal comes from its stylish design, fun-to-drive nature, and strong safety reputation.
What made the 2018 model especially distinctive was the way Mazda packaged its features across the trim range. The GX trim included 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with Mazda Connect, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moving up to GS brought the 2.5-litre engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, and a full suite of safety and driver-assistance features. The available Luxury package added leatherette upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, a power glass moonroof, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, while GT added a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, a head-up display, leather seats, a power liftgate, paddle shifters, cylinder deactivation, and LED Signature illumination headlights and taillights.
There are trade-offs, though. The CX-3’s rear seat is cramped and cargo space is limited, so it is better suited to buyers who value style, handling, and a premium cabin over outright practicality. Even so, its compact footprint, available all-wheel drive, and upscale equipment helped make it feel more luxurious than its price might suggest.

I love all the car’s features and love how the ac works well in this heat. I think this car is a good value. The car is missing CarPlay.

Awesome compact AWD car. Extremely reliable and feels more like a luxury car than an affordable gas saver. Compared to Subaru or Honda, the Mazda feels like you’re sitting in a Mercedes than a Japanese car. Very affordable as well. Much cheaper than a Toyota, better reliability, and much better options. Mazda has definitely made its way into a higher tier of auto manufacturers.

How much does the 2018 Mazda CX-3 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,159 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $15,622 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,861 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,780 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.12% |
Prices have softened 9.12% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 135 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2018 Mazda CX-3 a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Mazda CX-3 earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its great handling, smooth ride, and attractive design, and many also like its compact size and AWD capability. If you want a small crossover that feels more luxurious than its price suggests, the CX-3 fits that use case well. With 22.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Mazda CX-3 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centred on the CX-3’s overall quality and day-to-day confidence. For used buyers, that kind of long-term satisfaction can reduce the risk of unpleasant surprises, especially if the vehicle has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda CX-3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 22.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 135 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.12% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,622 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda CX-3's resale value?
The current average of $16,159 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,780 CAD.
That price movement suggests the CX-3 has softened in the used market, which can make it easier for you to buy now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell later. For a future seller, the current trend points to a market that is still adjusting, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to list. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 22.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2018 if you want the CX-3’s sporty feel, premium-leaning cabin, and strong owner satisfaction at a softened used price. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2018 is the better pick when you want a balanced mix of value and buyer appeal.
