Why it stands out
The 2018 GMC Terrain stands out as a more premium take on the compact SUV formula. GMC gave the second-generation Terrain distinct styling inside and out, along with features such as a push-button gear selector, better sound insulation, and a slightly smarter interior. It also came with an eight-inch touchscreen on many models, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, which helped make it feel modern and easy to live with.
For 2018, the Terrain came standard with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 170 horsepower, while a 252-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder was optional with most models and standard with the top-shelf Denali trim level until it was discontinued for 2021. A nine-speed automatic came standard with both gasoline engines, and a unique 1.6-litre diesel engine was also offered in 2018 and 2019. That diesel was rated at 137 horsepower but delivered strong 240 lb-ft of torque and excellent fuel economy, making it the efficiency choice in the lineup.
Buyers looking at a 2018 GMC Terrain will likely appreciate its comfortable ride, roomy cabin, and strong safety reputation. The trade-offs are worth noting, though: cargo space behind the rear seat trails that of its most popular rivals, and the standard 1.5-litre engine is not especially quick on the highway. Even so, the 2018 Terrain offers a good mix of comfort, features, and value, especially for shoppers who want a compact SUV with a more upscale feel.

It’s the Denali so it has everything you need plus more. Only thing that would make it better would be a V6 but this 2.0 turbo has major get up and go.

The car is amazing and of great value. We purchased this vehicle for under the market value and it is in excellent condition. I did a thorough walk around and probably looked like an idiot looking for the smallest dents and scratches. The vehicle has great options, panoramic roof and good quality materials, especially for the price. What a steal my wife got!!!!

This car exceeded my highest expectations. Very nice ride, appropriate amount of room and has a very sporty feel. Has a lot of extra features that make it over all a very nice care. The push gear buttons will take some time to get use to but over all very very cool.

I like the car, but the brakes are a little sensitive and the pick-up (from a stop) can be jerky. Otherwise, it is smooth, comfortable, and a quiet ride.

| Year-Round High | $19,220 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,037 CAD |

Prices have softened 16.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 227 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 GMC Terrain a good car?
Yes — the 2018 GMC Terrain earns a 4.71/5 user rating, which points to strong owner approval. Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, and the range of features available, especially in higher trim levels. Many also describe it as smooth and enjoyable to drive, with the 2.0L turbo engine standing out for stronger performance. For you, that makes it a good fit if you want a compact SUV with a more premium feel, a comfortable ride, and everyday usability. With 24.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 GMC Terrain reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that many people find dependable and trouble-free in day-to-day use, with comfort and overall livability helping support that impression. That said, some reviewers mention brake sensitivity, which is worth checking during a test drive. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and feels solid under braking and acceleration.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 GMC Terrain?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 24.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 227 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.81% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,833 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 GMC Terrain's resale value?
The current average of $15,837 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,037 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may face more price pressure than owners did a year ago. If you buy now, you may be entering at a lower cost basis than recent shoppers, which can help soften the impact of depreciation later. Even so, resale value will still depend on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 24.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the second-generation Terrain’s more premium feel, comfortable ride, and strong owner approval, the 2018 is the year to focus on. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a similar vehicle is available at a lower asking price, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible choice when you want a good balance of value and satisfaction.
