CarGurus Analysis: 2018 BMW 4 Series
Summary
With 112 currently listed for sale and an average price of $25,411 CAD, 28.6% of 2018 BMW 4 Series listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 BMW 4 Series 4.92 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 BMW 4 Series stands out as a stylish, driver-focused luxury coupe, convertible, or Gran Coupe that was designed to feel more distinctive than the 3 Series models it replaced in this body style. BMW positioned it as something more than a rebadged sedan derivative, and the car’s lower, sleeker shape gives it a more purposeful look. It also brought a new body style to the line in the form of the Gran Coupe, a five-door hatchback version of the coupe that adds extra practicality without abandoning the model’s sporty character.
For 2018, the first-generation 4 Series offered a strong mix of performance and equipment. The lineup included turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive, and either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment was generous even on base models, with 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, automatic climate control, power front seats and BMW’s iDrive system. An early 2017 update also brought LED headlights for all models and a stiffer suspension, which helped sharpen the driving experience.
That blend of premium feel and engaging road manners is a big part of the 2018 4 Series’ appeal. Owners commonly praise its quality, performance, luxury features, smooth ride and sporty handling. The main trade-off is practicality: the convertible’s boot space is limited, and taller occupants may find comfort less ideal. Even so, for buyers who want a used BMW that feels upscale and enjoyable to drive, the 2018 4 Series remains an attractive choice.

The 2018 BMW is truly a keeper and second to none! This vehicle has everything a serious driver wants or needs on command. I am impressed with its performance, and interior design. The entire vehicle was built for drivers who enjoy the look and feel of luxury and elegance.

You get two cars in one. The hardtop is not being made anymore. A push of a button you go from fun luxury drive to a full open view cruise. The 430 has plenty of power to fly when you want to or when you need to pass. We smile when we get into the car, while we drive it and even when we park it in the garage - knowing we can do it again tomorrow.

How much does the 2018 BMW 4 Series cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,412 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $23,793 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $27,186 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,046 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.43% |
Prices have softened 2.43% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 113 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2018 BMW 4 Series a good car?
Yes — the 2018 BMW 4 Series earns a 4.92/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its quality, performance, luxury features, smooth ride, and sporty handling, and they also like the sound system and navigation. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a stylish, driver-focused luxury coupe, convertible, or Gran Coupe with a more distinctive feel than a mainstream alternative. With 27.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2018 BMW 4 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels well put together, dependable, and enjoyable to live with over time. The repeated praise for quality and the overall ownership experience suggests you can count on it for long-term use if it has been maintained properly. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s appeal and more about the usual uncertainty that comes with any premium used vehicle, so a careful inspection and service-history review still matter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 BMW 4 Series?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 113 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.43% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,793 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 BMW 4 Series's resale value?
The current average of $25,412 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,046 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. Because the model still has strong owner appeal, a clean example should remain easier to move than one with visible wear or incomplete records.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of owner satisfaction, current pricing, and available inventory, the 2018 is the year to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still compare nearby years, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible target when you want a well-liked used BMW 4 Series without paying peak pricing.
