Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Generally — the 4.08/5 user rating suggests you can feel reasonably confident shopping this model year. Drivers consistently praise its performance and handling, along with its power and quality, and many also like its stylish design. The 2017 BMW 4 Series fits well if you want a premium coupe, convertible, or Gran Coupe with a sporty feel and a more distinctive shape than the 3 Series. Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.08/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers enjoy for its quality and performance, but reliability concerns and minor issues do come up in some reviews. For used buyers, that means you should pay close attention to service history and overall condition, because long-term ownership risk may be higher than you’d want if maintenance records are thin.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 111 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,855 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $21,270 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,767 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can make the car more attractive to buyers now but may also limit upside for a future seller if values continue to soften. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned to protect your resale position later. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.08/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.08/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible pick if you want the updated first-generation 4 Series with a strong mix of style, performance, and value, especially when you can find a well-priced example. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 stands out as the better-balanced choice when you want a newer-feeling used BMW without stretching too far on budget.
