Is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Volkswagen Golf is a 5/5 choice if you want a compact hatch that blends practicality with a sharper, more upscale feel. The overview points to standard all-wheel drive, a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, and a chassis tuned for grip and control, so it suits you if you want something quick but still relatively subtle. It also comes across as well equipped for the class, with features like heated and electrically adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a touchscreen infotainment system. The market also shows 26.0% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview describes reliability as generally solid, but it also flags coolant leaks, water pump failures, and timing-chain-related rattles as items to watch for on a used example. For you, that means the car can be a sensible ownership choice if it has been maintained properly and inspected carefully before purchase. Long-term ownership risk is manageable, but a thorough pre-purchase check matters because repair-prone cooling or timing issues can become expensive if they were ignored.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Golf?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 127 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,799 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf's resale value?

The current average of $12,432 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,025 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable entry point. If you plan to sell later, the current trend means you should be realistic about future depreciation rather than expecting a quick rebound. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should still appeal to shoppers looking for a subtle performance hatch.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Golf or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and a more approachable used-market entry point, the 2017 is the one to focus on first. If your priority is simply finding the lowest asking price, you can also keep an eye on nearby model years and compare condition, mileage, and service history before deciding.
