How much does the 2017 Volkswagen Golf cost?

Prices have softened 11.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 129 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Volkswagen Golf earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It stands out because it blends familiar Golf practicality with a sharper performance and upscale feel, while still offering a relatively subtle look. For you, that means a compact hatchback that can work as an everyday car but still feels more special than the standard model. With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some market room to shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview describes reliability as generally solid, but it also flags coolant leaks, water pump failures, and timing-chain-related rattles as items to watch for on a used example. That means your long-term ownership risk is manageable if you inspect carefully, but a pre-purchase check is especially important on higher-mileage cars.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Golf?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and compare condition, history, and pricing.

• Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 129 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,807 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Golf's resale value?

The current average of $12,407 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,068 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more approachable for you as a buyer but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Golf or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a used Golf that combines everyday practicality with a more upscale, performance-focused character, the 2017 is the primary year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
