Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Subaru Impreza earns 4.33/5 from users, and the model-year overview points to a compact car that feels more complete than before thanks to standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, improved handling and ride quality, and mainstream tech like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across all trims. It also brings a practical everyday setup with useful standard equipment and available convenience and safety features, which makes it appealing if you want all-weather traction and a well-rounded commuter. The trade-offs are still worth noting, especially the modest cargo space, some cheap-feeling interior materials, and styling that may not stand out to you.

With 29.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market activity to give you some negotiating room.

Is the 2017 Subaru Impreza reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview suggests a car built around proven, practical strengths rather than complexity, with standard all-wheel drive and a straightforward compact-car formula that should suit everyday use well. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about standout performance and more about making sure the car you choose has been maintained properly and still feels solid inside.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Impreza?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently while still being ready to move when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 117 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $13,841 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Impreza's resale value?

The current average of $14,400 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,536 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the Impreza’s value will likely depend on how well it holds buyer interest as a practical all-weather compact car with standard AWD and useful tech. A clean example with the right equipment and condition should be easier to move than one that feels worn or neglected.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the version of the Impreza that feels like a meaningful step forward, the 2017 is the one to focus on because it combines standard all-wheel drive, improved refinement, and a stronger tech story. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 is the better pick when you want the more complete package and can find a well-priced example.
