Yes — the 2017 Subaru Forester earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its safety features, spacious interior, and reliable all-wheel-drive capability, and they also highlight its comfort and useful technology. In practical terms, that lines up well with its role as a sensible compact SUV for buyers who want everyday usability, visibility, and all-weather confidence. Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 234 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,977 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $15,088 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,289 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Forester easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you purchase at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to protect value over time. Demand should remain supported by the model’s practical reputation and broad appeal to shoppers who want a sensible SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 Forester is a strong pick if you want a used compact SUV with solid owner satisfaction, standard all-wheel drive, and a market that currently favours careful shoppers. If your priority is stretching your budget, the 2017 makes sense as the primary target; if you want to compare value across nearby years, a lower-priced adjacent model year could be worth a look, but the 2017 remains the better all-around balance of price and buyer appeal.
