Yes — the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You get a near-perfect blend of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal, and the car’s polished luxury image is a big part of the appeal. What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car already brings a strong luxury feel, but the more upscale versions add a softer ride and more premium suspension tuning. If you want the best balance of comfort and value, the version with the softer Comfort setting is the one to prioritise.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic. It delivers strong shove in everyday driving, though the expert notes that it is not as quick or satisfying as the previous V6.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, an attention monitor, and rain-drying brake pads. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch central screen is standard with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The upgraded system uses an 8.4-inch screen and adds navigation, while the interface also brings an integrated owner’s manual, animations, and customised shortcuts.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive recorded 10.2 L/100 km, while Natural Resources Canada rates the C300 4Matic at 10.1 L/100 km city, 7.8 L/100 km highway, and 9.1 L/100 km combined.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

The C300 4Matic is the one to focus on because it’s the core model and the one most dealers will stock. It gives you the full Mercedes-Benz luxury experience, strong standard safety equipment, all-wheel drive, and the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, so you’re not missing the essentials. If you want the best-value path into this model year, this is the trim to target.

The standard safety package is already generous, so you do not need to move up the range just to get the basics.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 316 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,574 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?

The current average of $23,125 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,746 CAD.

That price movement suggests the model has become more accessible for used buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well today, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. Strong demand for a luxury sedan with broad appeal can still help support resale, especially if the car has been maintained properly and presents well.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?

The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mercedes includes rear side thorax-level airbags as standard, along with stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, an attention monitor, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, and Pre-Safe, which prepares the cabin for an imminent crash by closing the sunroof and adjusting the seats. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model keeps the same core formula of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal, so it makes sense if you want the familiar C-Class experience without paying for a newer year.

The bottom line: If you want the most balanced path into this generation, the 2017 is the smart pick because it combines strong owner satisfaction, solid safety, and a softer used-market price. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to keep shopping for the best-condition example rather than chasing a newer year, since the 2017 already delivers the core strengths that make the C-Class appealing.
