Is the 2017 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Generally — the 4.2/5 user rating suggests this is a well-liked used luxury sedan. That lines up well with its role as a compact luxury sedan for buyers who want a car that feels engaging rather than merely comfortable. Is the 2017 BMW 3 Series reliable?

User feedback points to a generally well-maintained, dependable ownership experience when you choose carefully, and the model is described as a great value when well maintained. Some shoppers did raise concerns about potential engine issues and basic features in certain examples, so condition and service history matter. For used buyers, that means the long-term risk is manageable, but only if you avoid neglected cars and budget for thorough pre-purchase inspection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 171 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,109 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $16,284 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,960 CAD.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should stay realistic unless the car is especially clean, well equipped, and well documented. Because the model still has strong appeal among shoppers who want a premium badge and engaging driving dynamics, well-kept examples should continue to attract interest.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a used 3 Series with a lower average price and a healthy share of attractive listings. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2017 stands out as a balanced buy for shoppers who value driving feel, premium presentation, and a market that has already cooled.
