CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Mazda MAZDA3

Summary
With 25 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,172 CAD, 20.0% of 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 4.83 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out because it blends compact-car practicality with a more stylish, engaging personality than many mainstream rivals. Mazda’s formula has always leaned toward a fun driving experience, and this car continues that approach with a sleek design and a reputation for being enjoyable to drive. It is also available as either a five-door hatchback or a four-door sedan, giving buyers a choice between added versatility and a more traditional body style.
For this model year, the Mazda3’s appeal is strengthened by its well-equipped cabin and broad feature set. The available trim range includes GX, GS, GT, and GT Turbo, and all models are described as very well equipped, with alloy wheels, cruise control, LED headlights, and advanced safety features. Most versions also include blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher-spec models add a Bose premium audio system and electric driver’s seat adjustment. The 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 also benefits from Mazda’s generally solid reliability reputation, and owner feedback reinforces its sporty feel, responsive acceleration, fuel efficiency, stylish interior, and user-friendly technology.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The hatchback’s tapered roof and window line reduce practicality and rear visibility somewhat, and owners have reported some air-conditioning issues. Even so, the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 remains appealing because it offers style, driver involvement, and a premium feel without losing sight of value.

The vehicle was priced well with all the features anyone could ever need. The interior seems to be better quality than others in its class over all a good made vehicle.

When my Honda died some 10 years ago or so, I somehow stumbled upon the Mazda3 (I think it was the Car & Driver reviews), and bought one. That car is the most fabulous car in its price range that I have ever driven. I adored it. I bought a 2008 sGT, and drove it with nothing but the greatest pleasure until it gave up its life for me about a month ago. There will be no coming back from this injury, but I promise you, I am currently looking for this car, and ONLY this car, for my next car, and however many next cars I have after this one. Ne plus ultra.

This car certainly has a LOT of zip, and thats not even using the Sport Mode! Plus, it gets great mpg and has a good shot of making it to 250k miles.

How much does the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,608 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $13,556 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $14,826 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,175 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.00% |
Prices have softened 4.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 223 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 4.83/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its sporty feel, responsive acceleration, and fuel efficiency, and they also value its stylish interior and user-friendly technology. That fits well if you want a compact car that feels more engaging than many mainstream rivals while still offering hatchback or sedan practicality. With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a car that feels dependable in everyday use, with praise for its trouble-free ownership experience, fuel efficiency, and long-term appeal. The broader model description also points to Mazda’s generally solid reliability reputation. For used buyers, that suggests manageable long-term ownership risk, provided you inspect any example carefully and confirm it has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda MAZDA3?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 223 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,556 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $13,608 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,175 CAD.
That softer pricing can be a mixed signal for future resale. On one hand, it means you may have a better entry point today than a buyer did a year ago. On the other hand, it also suggests the market has already adjusted downward, so a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 Mazda MAZDA3 is a strong choice if you want a compact car with style, engaging road manners, and broad owner approval. If your priority is value, the 2017 makes sense because pricing has eased and there is still a healthy pool of listings to compare. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to watch nearby model years for the best deal, but the 2017 remains a compelling balance of satisfaction and market value.
