CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda CR-V
Summary
With 142 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,513 CAD, 21.8% of 2017 Honda CR-V listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda CR-V 4.65 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda CR-V stands out as a practical compact crossover that blends strong everyday usability with a more distinctive look than its predecessor. Honda’s fifth-generation redesign brought bold styling, increased dimensions for extra rear legroom and cargo space, and chassis revisions aimed at improving ride, handling, and braking performance. It also introduced a hands-free power tailgate, which adds convenience for families and commuters who are often loading groceries, luggage, or sports gear.
Canadian models came standard with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine making 190 horsepower, and Honda paired that with a simple physical volume knob to make the touchscreen audio system easier to use. The broader availability of Honda Sensing safety technology was another important update, and the CR-V also added standard lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, road-departure mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control. That combination helps explain why the CR-V has such a strong reputation for safety, reliability, and value.
There are trade-offs, though. The 2017 Honda CR-V is not the most engaging vehicle to drive, and its styling is more functional than expressive. Even so, it remains appealing because it offers a roomy cabin, useful cargo space, and a long list of features in a package that is easy to live with and generally well regarded by owners.

We like it so far, but have only had it for a day. The manual is clear so it is easy to find out the things that are different from the old car. Drives smoothly, power available for hill or passing. It is very comfortable.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,835 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $18,772 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $20,782 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,782 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.37% |

There are 632 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Honda CR-V a good car?
Yes — the 4.65/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the CR-V for its excellent fuel economy, spacious interior, and strong value for the price, while also highlighting its safety features and reliability. For you, that makes it a smart fit if you want a practical compact crossover for family duties, commuting, or everyday errands. With 27.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Honda CR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to reliability, dependability, and a vehicle you can count on over time, especially if you want a low-stress used crossover. That said, a few owners mention technical issues on certain trims, so a careful pre-purchase inspection still matters. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the model’s overall reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda CR-V?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings closely.
- Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 632 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.37% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $18,772 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda CR-V's resale value?
The current average of $18,835 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,782 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper what you recover later as a seller. If you buy at a strong price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit on resale. The CR-V’s broad appeal and practical reputation should still help it remain easy to move when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.37% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the better choice if you want a well-rounded compact SUV with strong owner approval, useful space, and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains a sensible primary target for shoppers who value a balanced mix of practicality and satisfaction.
