Generally — the 4.32/5 user rating suggests you should expect a well-liked truck overall. Owners commonly praise its power, smooth ride, and comfortable interior, and many also value the range of features and the strong overall value proposition. That fits the Sierra 1500’s role as a full-size pickup that can work as a daily driver, a capable hauler, or a more comfort-focused truck depending on how it’s equipped. With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

The owner feedback points to a truck that many people find dependable and satisfying over time, with repeated praise for its strong performance and comfortable driving experience. At the same time, some owners mention reliability concerns with certain engines, so you should pay close attention to service history and how the truck has been maintained. For used buyers, that means the long-term ownership risk is manageable, but only if you verify the specific truck’s condition carefully.

The current average of $23,392 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,195 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may face more competition when it’s time to list. If you buy well now, you may have less downside than someone who paid closer to the higher prices seen a year ago. Trucks with broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can still hold attention, especially when they’re well equipped and in clean condition.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.32/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.32/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a used Sierra 1500 with a favourable price trend and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2017 gives you a good balance of owner satisfaction, market availability, and current value.
