Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Fusion stands out as a midsize sedan that blends sharp styling, strong road manners, and a broad range of powertrains. Ford’s second-generation Fusion brought strikingly sharp styling and loads of new tech, and the car was also praised for its sure-footed, capable handling even in foul weather and in front-drive form. It offers plenty of room as well, with 973 millimetres of rear legroom and a 450-litre trunk, making it a practical choice for buyers who want space without giving up a more polished driving experience.
For 2017, one of the Fusion’s biggest distinctions was the addition of Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, which brought Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and other features. That same year also saw a very potent 325-horsepower EcoBoost V6 added during the car’s refresh, giving the Fusion Sport serious performance credentials. The model’s appeal is broadened by its available all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid option, and a wide spread of engines, including the 175-horsepower 2.5-litre Duratec and the turbocharged 1.5-litre EcoBoost that returns as low as 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres combined among gas models.
There are trade-offs, though. The Fusion was described as not as deluxe as its price tag suggests, and non-hybrids lag rivals in MPG. Even so, the 2017 Ford Fusion remains distinctive because it combines attractive design, useful space, modern connectivity, and a genuinely engaging chassis in a package that still feels like a good value.
