Is the 2017 Dodge Journey a good car?

Generally — the 2017 Dodge Journey earns a 4.2/5 user rating, which points to solid overall owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its spaciousness, smooth driving experience, handling, and fuel efficiency. Those strengths make it appealing if you want a practical family vehicle. Is the 2017 Dodge Journey reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

At the same time, owner feedback raises reliability concerns, especially around mechanical issues involving the transmission and front end. That means you should be cautious about maintenance history and inspection results before you commit to a used example. For long-term ownership, the risk profile looks higher than average if the vehicle has not been well maintained.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Dodge Journey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 222 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.14% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $10,975 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Dodge Journey's resale value?

The current average of $10,975 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,245 CAD.

That price movement suggests the model has lost value over the past year, which can be a concern if you plan to sell in the near future. For future sellers, softer pricing today can mean a smaller cushion against depreciation if the market weakens further. On the other hand, a lower entry price can help keep demand steady among budget-conscious buyers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Journey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 makes sense if you want a lower-priced used SUV with decent owner satisfaction and you can verify maintenance carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2016 may appeal as a cheaper alternative, while the 2018 may be worth a look if you want to compare against a newer model-year price point.
