CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura MDX
Summary
With 12 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,664 CAD, 41.7% of 2017 Acura MDX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura MDX 4.75 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura MDX stands out as a three-row luxury SUV that blends family practicality with a strong emphasis on standard equipment and safety. It comes with a 290-horsepower V6 and standard all-wheel drive in Canada, and Acura added a new 12.3-inch infotainment display, a configurable digital gauge cluster, and better safety tech. Inside, it also offers high-end finishes and features such as a 16-way power driver’s seat and Alcantara upholstery, which helps give it a more upscale feel than many mainstream family SUVs.
What makes this MDX especially appealing is how much equipment it includes without forcing buyers into the highest trims. AcuraWatch is standard, along with adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision mitigation, while a head-up display and surround-view camera system are available. All models also get LED headlights, push-button start, automatic climate controls, a wireless phone charger, navigation, and AcuraLink apps by default. That said, the touchpad infotainment system remains a weak point, because it is frustrating to use when the vehicle is in motion.
For buyers, the 2017 Acura MDX offers a refined, athletic character and the practicality of a true three-row layout. It is described as the fastest, sleekest, and most refined MDX yet, and it remains an athletic driver even in base form. The trade-off is that it is not cheap, and the lack of a hybrid option may matter to some shoppers, but for those who want a well-equipped luxury SUV with strong standard safety content and a comfortable, premium cabin, it has a lot going for it.

This car, the Acura MDX is a total surprise to me. The features are sophisticated and just the right amount of technology and swag that makes it an eye catching bang for my bucks. I came out of a Tahoe with great features and good looks that turned heads and attracted inquiries. My MDX is getting so many compliments and attention from my friends, family, and group members because the maintenance record was impressive and it has the look of luxury; it's a stylish vehicle, that boasts reliability second only to Toyota Lexus. I enjoy driving the MDX and the only thing missing is free oil changes.

How much does the 2017 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,804 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $19,804 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $24,493 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,173 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −18.07% |
Prices have softened 18.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 136 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura MDX earns a 4.75/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. You get a three-row luxury SUV that owners praise for its luxury, space, and safety features, along with a smooth ride and a spacious interior, especially if you need the available third row. It also fits well if you want a family vehicle that feels upscale without giving up practicality. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market choice if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centred on the MDX’s overall quality and the confidence it inspires over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about whether the technology and cabin details meet your expectations as the vehicle ages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re patient and compare listings closely.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 136 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.07% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $19,804 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $19,804 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,173 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Because the model still has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain reasonably healthy if you keep it in good shape.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 Acura MDX makes the most sense if you want a well-equipped three-row luxury SUV with strong owner approval and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but if you want the refreshed equipment and strong satisfaction profile, the 2017 is the better primary target.
