Is the 2016 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 4.94/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its reliability, power, comfortable ride, spacious interior, and towing capability, while the 4Runner’s rugged, off-road-first character makes it a strong fit if you want durability and everyday practicality in one SUV. The trade-offs are a pricier feel and fewer modern amenities, but that same formula is what appeals to buyers who value toughness over refinement. With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.94/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to reliability, long-lasting performance, and a vehicle that many drivers feel they can count on over time. That lines up with the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and rugged construction, especially if you plan to keep it for the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about whether it can last and more about whether you are comfortable with its older-school design and the compromises that come with it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly when you find a strong one.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 90 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,920 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $29,618 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,083 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and strong owner satisfaction helps support demand. If you keep the vehicle in good condition, its rugged image and loyal buyer base should continue to work in your favour when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a smart choice if you want the 4Runner’s rugged character, strong owner approval, and a market that has softened enough to create some buying opportunities. If you are especially price-sensitive, it is also worth comparing nearby model years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2016’s balance of value and satisfaction.
