Is the 2016 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable in day-to-day use, with praise centred on its solid handling, good gas mileage, and overall value. At the same time, the model’s mixed reliability reputation means you should pay close attention to maintenance history and any signs of electrical or brake-related wear before you buy. For used buyers, that means the long-term ownership risk is manageable, but only if you choose carefully and inspect the vehicle thoroughly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 257 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.52% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $13,937 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $13,948 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,921 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. The current market trend points to steady demand rather than a sharp premium, so condition, mileage, and service history will matter a lot when you go to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 CX-5 makes sense if you want the sporty, car-like feel of this generation and you find a well-priced example with a clean history. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2016 remains a strong pick when condition and deal quality line up.
