Is the 2016 Honda Accord a good car?

Generally — the Accord earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal with some trade-offs. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, reliability, impressive gas mileage, safety features, and interior quality. That lines up well with the Accord’s role as a sensible family sedan that balances everyday competence with a reputation for keeping ownership worries in check.

Honda’s ownership story is generally reassuring, but some owners do report parts failures and serious defects in certain units, so a careful pre-purchase inspection still matters. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s overall reputation and more about finding an individual car that has been maintained properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Accord?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the entry point, while the Sport, EX-L, and Touring add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The Touring stands out with the most premium presentation, including the 19-inch machined-finish alloy wheels and the Acura-like styling cues, while the base car is more straightforward and less richly equipped.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower, while the Sport raises output to 189 hp. The Accord is front-wheel drive only, and V6 power is reserved for the EX-L V6 and Touring V6 trims.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is the driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on EX-L and Touring trims with both engines, and it cannot be paired with the manual transmission.
• Infotainment: Every Accord gets Bluetooth streaming audio, text-messaging support, a USB port, and Pandora access. The 7-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto is reserved for the Touring and Touring V6 models.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review notes 9.4 L/100 km in combined driving, with a test-loop result of 9.6 L/100 km. It also says the car can dip to less than 7 L/100 km on the open road at highway speeds.

Which 2016 Honda Accord trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Accord is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX-L, Touring, EX-L V6, Touring V6.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Accord’s core strengths without paying for extras. It gives you the basic sedan experience, but you miss out on the more upscale equipment and advanced tech found higher up the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more athletic look and feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It also gets larger front brakes and 19-inch wheels, but those wheels can make tight manoeuvres harder.
• EX-L: This is the trim to target if you want a more premium daily driver and the Honda Sensing safety suite. It is a strong middle ground for buyers who care about comfort and safety tech.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped four-cylinder model and the one to choose if you want the best cabin tech and the most upscale presentation. It gets the 7-inch touchscreen system with HondaLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, plus the most polished appearance.
• EX-L V6: This is the pick if you want stronger acceleration and still want a well-equipped Accord. It pairs the V6 with the more premium EX-L equipment set.
• Touring V6: This is the top choice if you want the most powerful and most feature-rich Accord in this lineup. It combines the V6 with the Touring’s full tech and luxury content.

Honda Sensing is standard on the EX-L and Touring trims with both engines, but it cannot be combined with the manual transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Accord?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 100 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.31% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,002 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Accord's resale value?

The current average of $15,011 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,372 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Accord has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry cost today can make it easier to recover a fair share of value later, especially if the car is well maintained.

The Accord’s broad appeal, strong owner satisfaction, and reputation for reliability should continue to support demand in the used market. Even so, resale will depend heavily on trim, condition, mileage, and whether the car has the desirable equipment buyers want.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Accord safe?

The Honda Accord earns top marks in every NHTSA and IIHS assessment except for four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is available on every version of the Accord, but you cannot combine it with the manual transmission.

The safety picture is still mixed in a few important ways. The Accord comes with a standard backup camera, but it does not include rear cross-traffic alert or a traditional blind-spot warning system. Instead, some trims use LaneWatch, which only monitors the right-side blind spot.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Accord or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda made a number of improvements to the 2016 Accord, but some small oversights still remain.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,433 CAD, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,011 CAD average.
• It is exceptionally well engineered and built to provide dependable service for many years.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more refined version of this sedan, the 2016 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path and still makes a strong case for itself.
