How much does the 2016 Ford F-150 cost?

Prices have softened 6.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 420 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford F-150 earns 4.62/5 from owners and 8.5/10 from experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, power, and variety of features, and the smooth ride and spacious interior come up often. The turbo V6 is also frequently highlighted, which fits the truck’s use-case as a premium-feeling pickup that still needs to work hard. In the broader overview, you’re looking at a truck that leans into luxury without losing its pickup identity, so it makes the most sense if you want refinement in a full-size light-duty truck.

Good and great deals account for 23.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a truck that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with comfort and power standing out alongside the overall ownership experience. The expert assessment also notes that the F-150 rates better than average for reliability, which supports the idea that it can be a truck you count on over the long term.

Ford also positions the F-150 Limited as a premium truck rather than a stripped-down workhorse, so the ownership experience is tied to higher-end equipment and expectations. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age and mileage can make maintenance history more important, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL is the most stripped-back version, while the Limited is the luxury-focused flagship with 22-inch wheels, satin-finish accents, caramel-coloured Mojave leather, genuine eucalyptus wood, and other upscale touches. If you want the best value, the XLT and Lariat sit in the middle of the range and give you more equipment without jumping all the way to the top-end price.
• Powertrain: You can get a standard twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 with 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, and the truck is also offered with two turbocharged V6 engines or a V8 engine. The EcoBoost setup is strong and responsive, but it is not especially fuel-conscious.
• Safety package: Ford offers adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a lane-keeping system. Some of these features are available rather than standard, so you should confirm exactly what the truck you’re considering includes.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touchscreen with swipe capability, improved voice recognition, integrated Siri compatibility, and Wi-Fi software updates. A rear-view camera is standard, while built-in navigation is optional.
• Fuel efficiency: The test loop returned 14.0 L/100 km, and Ford notes there are no official fuel economy figures for this configuration from Natural Resources Canada.

Which 2016 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most basic way into the F-150, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and don’t need the luxury touches that define the higher trims.
• XLT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability and comfort without pushing you into the expensive upper end of the range.
• Lariat: This is the step up if you want a more upscale feel and more equipment while still staying below the premium-focused trims.
• King Ranch: This trim is for you if you want a more distinctive upscale truck with a richer cabin and a stronger luxury lean.
• Platinum: This is the right pick if you want a near-top-tier truck with a more premium presentation and a long list of features.
• Limited: This is the flagship luxury trim, and it is the one to choose if you want the most lavish version of the F-150 and are comfortable paying for it.

The safety package includes adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a lane-keeping system, but automatic emergency braking is not part of the setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent options.

• Deal availability: 23.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 420 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,461 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $21,465 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,018 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests future sellers may face a more competitive market than they would have a year ago. If you own one, especially a higher-mileage example, you may need to price it carefully to stand out. On the other hand, the truck’s strong feature set and premium appeal can still help support demand among shoppers looking for a well-equipped used pickup.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 safe?

The Ford F-150 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford includes 911 Assist through Sync, which can automatically contact emergency responders if the airbags deploy and a paired device is in the vehicle. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system that can alert you to unintended lane departure and help prevent it.

One caveat is that the truck is not eligible for Top Safety Pick+ because it does not have automatic emergency braking. The lane-keeping system and forward-collision warning can also produce occasional false alerts.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 23.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model stands out for its luxury-leaning Limited trim, Sync 3 infotainment, and strong safety results.

The bottom line: If you want a used F-150 that blends premium cabin appeal with strong safety and broad owner approval, the 2016 is a compelling choice. If your priority is simply the widest possible selection or you want to compare more recent equipment updates, it can also make sense to look at nearby model years and compare condition, mileage, and price closely.
