Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

The owner feedback points to a truck that many people enjoy living with, especially for comfort and everyday usability, but it also flags reliability concerns around the air conditioning and transmission. That means you should treat maintenance history and a careful pre-purchase inspection as especially important on the used market. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a truck that has already shown signs of those known trouble spots.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop with some leverage if you're patient and focused.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 302 listings available.

If you find a listing below $21,482 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $21,522 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,216 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the truck easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you purchase at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you can help protect your future resale position. The current spread between the low and high of the year-round range also shows that condition, trim, and equipment still matter a lot to what buyers will pay later.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a sensible choice if you want a well-equipped, comfortable Sierra 1500 and you can take advantage of the softer pricing. If you're price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever truck gives you the best combination of condition, service history, and asking price.
