CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Audi Q5
Summary
With 72 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,650 CAD, 36.1% of 2016 Audi Q5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Audi Q5 4.7 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Audi Q5 stands out as a compact luxury SUV that leans more on refinement than flash. It has a roomy, beautifully built interior and a real feeling of solidity and smoothness, which helps explain why it has long appealed to buyers who want a premium SUV that feels substantial on the road. It also came with standard all-wheel drive and a well-equipped cabin, so even early versions were positioned as upscale rather than stripped-back.
For 2016, the Q5 was part of the first generation, and the available information points to a strong mix of comfort and usability. The entry-level model came with 18-inch alloy wheels, power heated front seats and outboard mirrors, leather upholstery, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10-speaker audio system, and Sirius satellite radio. That combination makes it easy to see why the Q5 has been popular with owners who value a premium feel and everyday practicality.
There are trade-offs, though. The first-generation Q5 does not have the strongest reliability reputation, with excessive oil consumption and failing timing chains among the more notable concerns, especially on 2.0T models. Some owners also report rattling or leaking panoramic sunroofs and noisy suspension caused by failing control arms. Even so, for shoppers who prioritise comfort, quality, and a well-appointed cabin, the 2016 Audi Q5 remains an appealing used luxury SUV.

This car has it all. Immaculate attention to detail. Drivability. Easy access and parking. Amazing performance. And ultra reliability combined with the efficiency of a TDI engine make it one of (if not #1) the ultimate road going vehicles you can buy.

I ended up purchasing a 2017 Q5 and absolutely LOVE it! I compared it to a BMW X3, which was also a beautiful vehicle but for my business I need a slightly larger vehicle and the Audi Q5 is perfect. Plus I actually like the features more and the style. It drives like a dream!

How much does the 2016 Audi Q5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,648 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $13,341 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $16,814 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,025 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.83% |
Prices have softened 14.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 157 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2016 Audi Q5 a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Audi Q5 earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth driving experience, superb interior quality, and spacious, premium-feeling cabin. It also appeals if you want a compact luxury SUV that feels polished and well equipped rather than flashy, and the market shows 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2016 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centred on the Q5’s smoothness and overall quality. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and inspect for age-related issues, since long-term ownership risk can rise if prior care was inconsistent.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Audi Q5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 157 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.83% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,341 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $13,648 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,025 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Q5 easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you purchase at the right price and keep the vehicle well maintained, you may be better positioned to preserve value than a buyer who pays near the top of the range. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2016 Audi Q5 makes the most sense if you want a well-liked compact luxury SUV with strong owner approval and a softer used-market price than it had a year ago. If you are price-sensitive, this year is worth a close look; if you want the broadest selection of deals, you should focus on listings near the lower end of the current range and compare them carefully against nearby model years.
