CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Acura MDX
Summary
With 121 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,341 CAD, 28.1% of 2016 Acura MDX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Acura MDX 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Acura MDX stands out as a three-row luxury SUV that blends comfort, practicality, and a strong feature set. It sits in the third generation, which brought a re-engineered 3.5-litre V6, a dual-screen infotainment layout, and a move toward more widely available driver-assist equipment. For buyers, that means a family-friendly cabin with room for seven, a reputation for quality, and a package that was usually well equipped for the class.
For 2016 specifically, the MDX used a 3.5-litre V6 rated at 290 horsepower and a nine-speed automatic transmission. It was also rated at 11.1 litres per 100 kilometres combined with Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive, which is a respectable figure for a midsize luxury SUV with three rows. The model’s strengths also include a comfortable ride, standard safety equipment such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, and a cabin that was described as more spacious than many rivals of its era.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The infotainment system was not especially easy to use, and the third row is tight. The MDX also was not as sporty as some competitors, and its V6 was still thirsty compared with more efficient alternatives. Even so, the 2016 Acura MDX remains appealing because it combines strong performance, useful space, and a long list of features in a well-regarded luxury package.

Yes a great value and w/ Acura watch this is totally incredible for a smaller suv. Having the Acura 4yr. Warranty w/50K miles. This has the 3.5 Fwd power everywhere and power outlets are all over as well. Leather is beautiful it’s got more buttons it can be overwhelming but it’s greatly appreciated.

I chose this specific trim (Elite model) for comfort and well… the wide screen entertainment system for my younger kids. For a 8 year old car it drives amazingly. I have driven Hondas, Toyotas Fords but this might be the best I have owned.

How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,325 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $16,323 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $19,655 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,582 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −16.63% |
Prices have softened 16.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 123 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the market.
Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating, which is a strong sign that owners are very satisfied with it. Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, and spacious interior, and many also value its overall performance and family-friendly usefulness. That lines up well with its role as a three-row luxury SUV for buyers who want comfort, practicality, and a strong feature set. With 28.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free for many shoppers, with strong praise for comfort, safety, and overall ownership experience. The main caution from owners is transmission shifting behaviour, so that is worth checking closely on any used example you consider. For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk looks manageable if the vehicle has been maintained properly and drives smoothly on a test drive.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 123 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.63% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $16,323 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $16,325 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,582 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can make the MDX more attractive to you as a buyer today but may also limit upside for a future seller if prices stay under pressure. Even so, the model’s broad appeal as a comfortable, practical three-row luxury SUV should help it remain relevant in the used market. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2016 MDX is a strong choice if you want a well-equipped three-row luxury SUV with solid owner satisfaction and a softer used-market price. If you are shopping mainly for value, the 2016 is the better path to consider first; if you want to compare pricing and features across nearby years, a different model year may be worth a look, especially if you are trying to balance budget against inventory and condition.
