What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE, XLE, and Limited trims differ mainly in equipment, with the LE missing some of the convenience and safety content found higher up the range. The XLE adds more everyday appeal, while the Limited is the one that can be paired with the most advanced safety package.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is described as peppy and refined, but it can feel a bit underpowered from a standstill.
• Safety package: The Limited trim can be equipped with a Technology Package that adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, upgraded JBL audio, voice recognition, and automatic high beams. Active cruise control and active braking are not available.
• Infotainment: The test vehicle’s setup used a 6.1-inch touchscreen with Entune smartphone apps, Bluetooth, HD Radio, and navigation. The system is described as frustrating to use because of tiny buttons and occasional touchscreen glitches.
• Fuel efficiency: The RAV4 is rated at 9.5 L/100 km in combined driving, with 8.9 L/100 km for FWD and 9.6 L/100 km for the Limited. The test vehicle returned 9.0 L/100 km.

Which 2015 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the RAV4’s core practicality at the lowest cost. Just be aware that some convenience and safety features are reserved for higher trims.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday equipment while staying below the top model. It suits you well if you want a more complete package without paying for the Limited’s extras.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale version and the available Technology Package. It is the trim to target if advanced driver-assistance features matter most to you.

The Technology Package is available only on the Limited trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 21.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 181 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,557 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $16,104 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,919 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you own one, the current trend points to steady but not especially strong appreciation potential in the near term. The upside is that the RAV4’s reputation for reliability and practicality should help keep demand healthy.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and a four-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA, with a three-star protection rating for the front passenger in the frontal-impact assessment.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota includes a rear-view camera on the XLE and Limited, while the LE gets a backup camera only as an option. If you want blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning, you need the optional Technology Package on the Limited trim. Active cruise control and active braking are not available, and Safety Connect is missing altogether.

The main caveat is that the RAV4’s NHTSA results are not class-leading, so safety-minded shoppers should pay close attention to trim level and equipment.

Should I buy a 2015 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 21.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Improved crash-test ratings help elevate this year’s standing.

The bottom line: The 2015 Toyota RAV4 makes the most sense if you want a practical, efficient compact SUV with strong owner satisfaction and a solid safety story. If you are price-sensitive, this year’s softer pricing and decent deal availability make it worth a close look, especially if you can find one near the low end of the market range.
