What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE, XLE, and Limited are the main trims, and the biggest feature gap is at the lower end. The LE can be had with a back-up camera only as an option, while the XLE and Limited get a rear-view camera. The Limited is the only trim that can be paired with the optional Technology Package, which adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, an upgraded JBL audio system, voice recognition, and automatic high beams.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the LE and XLE, while all-wheel drive is optional on those trims and standard on the Limited. The engine is peppy and refined, but it can feel a bit underpowered from a stop.
• Safety package: The available Technology Package on the Limited is the key safety upgrade, bringing blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. A rear-view camera is standard on the XLE and Limited, while the LE’s back-up camera is optional.
• Infotainment: The RAV4 can be equipped with an Entune premium audio system and navigation, but the touchscreen is a small 6.1-inch unit. Bluetooth is standard, and the system can include smartphone app features, HD Radio, traffic, and weather information.
• Fuel efficiency: The RAV4 is rated at 9.5 L/100 km in combined driving, with 8.9 L/100 km for front-wheel drive and 9.6 L/100 km for the Limited. In testing, it returned 9.0 L/100 km.

Which 2015 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the RAV4’s core practicality at the lowest cost. Just keep in mind that some useful equipment, including the back-up camera, is optional here.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience and includes the rear-view camera. It also gives you access to available AWD and the better-equipped infotainment setup.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most complete RAV4 and are willing to pay for it. It comes with standard AWD and is the only trim that can get the Technology Package with the most advanced safety features.

The safety-package trim note is simple: the most desirable active safety features are reserved for the Limited with the optional Technology Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent value.

• Deal availability: 18.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 208 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.29% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,564 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $15,783 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,665 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the RAV4 easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller. If you own one, the good news is that the model’s reputation for reliability and practicality should help keep demand steady. The strongest resale prospects will usually go to well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2015 Toyota RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA, with a three-star protection rating for the front passenger in the frontal-impact assessment.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

A rear-view camera is standard on the XLE and Limited, while the LE gets a back-up camera only as an option. More advanced driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning are bundled into the optional Technology Package on the Limited. The main caveat is that Toyota’s active cruise control and active braking are unavailable, and the NHTSA result shows a weaker front-passenger frontal-impact rating than the overall score.

Should I buy a 2015 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 18.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Improved crash-test ratings help strengthen its appeal, and loyal Toyota buyers are likely to appreciate its sensible all-rounder character.

The bottom line: The 2015 RAV4 makes sense if you want a practical, reliable compact SUV and you find one priced well. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may offer a similar formula at a lower entry point, but the 2015 remains a solid choice when condition and equipment line up.

How does the 2015 Toyota RAV4 compare to the 2015 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2015 Toyota RAV4 7.3/10 and the 2015 Honda CR-V 8.5/10. The CR-V has the edge on overall expert score, stronger fuel economy, and a slightly lower average used price. The RAV4 counters with a strong reliability reputation, a roomy cabin, and good value if you find one in the right condition. If you want the more polished all-rounder, the CR-V is the safer bet; if you prefer Toyota’s durability story and a practical, easy-to-live-with SUV, the RAV4 still makes sense.
