CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Mazda CX-5
Summary
With 224 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,239 CAD, 29.9% of 2015 Mazda CX-5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Mazda CX-5 4.75 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Mazda CX-5 stands out because it brought a more stylish, more engaging approach to the compact SUV class. Mazda’s first CX-5 was designed with a low-slung, curvy shape, a front grille that flows into the headlights, and distinctive sculptured sides, giving it a look that was more car-like than many rivals. It also delivered sprightlier handling than you’d expect from an SUV of its time, which helped give it the sporty character Mazda was aiming for. For buyers who want an SUV that feels a little more polished and enjoyable on the road, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
Under the bonnet, the 2015 model offered a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Skyactiv-G engine with 155 horsepower, paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive was the default layout, with all-wheel drive available as an option. Mazda also offered a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with an extra 29 horsepower, which gave the CX-5 more pace to match its sporty personality. Standard equipment included air conditioning, cruise control, power side mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while available features included a power driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, blind spot monitoring, and a rear-view camera.
There are trade-offs, though. The 2015 Mazda CX-5 does not have the strongest reputation for reliability, with engine and electrical issues among the common complaints for first-generation models, and premature brake wear is also something to watch for. Owners also praise its comfort, handling, and fuel economy, but some note that cargo space can feel limited and that optional features can push the price up. Even so, it remains appealing as a used compact SUV that blends sharp styling, good road manners, and a more premium feel than many mainstream alternatives.

|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,234 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $12,034 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $14,080 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,586 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.80% |
Prices have softened 2.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 231 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2015 Mazda CX-5 a good car?
Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its good looks, comfort, and strong performance, and they also like its fuel economy and handling. For you, that makes it a compelling choice if you want a compact SUV that feels more polished and enjoyable on the road than many rivals. With 34.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value to be found if you shop carefully.
Is the 2015 Mazda CX-5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in day-to-day use, especially when it comes to comfort, handling, and fuel economy. At the same time, the model’s reputation is mixed enough that you should pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition. For used buyers, that means the long-term ownership risk is manageable if you choose carefully, but it is not a model to buy without a thorough inspection.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Mazda CX-5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
- Inventory: There are 231 listings available, so you have enough supply to compare prices and equipment.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.80% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $12,034 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Mazda CX-5's resale value?
The current average of $12,234 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,586 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell. Strong demand from shoppers who value style, comfort, and handling can also help support resale performance.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.80% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2015 if you want a stylish, enjoyable compact SUV and you find one with a clean history at a fair price. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2015 stands out as a balanced pick when condition, mileage, and asking price line up well.
