Is the 2014 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Drivers consistently praise its smooth handling, fuel economy, and comfort, and many also like the performance and useful features such as the backup camera and safety sensors. If you want a compact SUV that feels more car-like and engaging while still covering everyday practicality, this model year fits that brief well. Is the 2014 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable for daily use, with praise for its trouble-free feel in normal ownership and its comfort over time. That said, this generation has some known engine and electrical concerns, so a careful inspection matters if you want to reduce long-term ownership risk. For used buyers, the main risk is buying a neglected example rather than the model itself.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 98 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $10,502 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $10,575 CAD sits slightly below last year's $11,358 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a few years. For a future seller, it also means resale gains may be limited unless you buy well, maintain the vehicle carefully, and choose a clean, well-equipped example. The current price position leaves less room for appreciation, so condition and mileage will matter even more when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2014 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2014 if you want a used compact SUV with strong owner approval, a softer price trend, and enough inventory to compare a few examples. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained listings near the low end of the range and be ready to act when you find one that checks out.
