What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The DX is the simplest version, while the LX adds heated front seats and heated side mirrors. The EX brings automatic climate control, a power sunroof, two USB ports, a security system, automatic headlights, LaneWatch, keyless entry with push-button ignition, a 7-inch display, upgraded audio, and HondaLink. The Touring adds leather seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, fog lights, 17-inch aluminium wheels, navigation, satellite radio, and a multi-angle reversing camera. The LX CVT is the best-value pick if you want the essentials without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Powertrain: The main engine is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder paired with a CVT on many versions, and it is described as refined, adequate, and unobtrusive. The Civic is front-wheel drive only.
• Safety package: SmartVent front side-impact airbags are standard. LaneWatch is included on EX and higher trims, while the optional navigation system adds a multi-angle reversing camera with a 180-degree view.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen display, and the system supports HondaLink connectivity and services. The LX includes Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, text messaging support, and a USB port.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the CVT-equipped sedan uses 8.1 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway, and the test vehicle averaged 7.4 L/100 km.

Which 2014 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, Touring, Si, and Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the most basic Civic sedan, and it suits you if you want the lowest entry point and are comfortable with a simpler setup.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the core comfort and convenience features you are most likely to want without pushing the price too high.
• EX: Choose this if you want a more complete daily driver, with stronger tech and convenience features than the LX.
• Touring: This is the most upscale sedan trim, with leather, navigation, satellite radio, and the reversing camera, so it suits you if comfort and equipment matter most.
• Si: Pick this if you want the sportier Civic, since it gets a revised suspension and larger wheels.
• Hybrid: This is the fuel-focused option, but it is a carry-over model and only available by special order.

The EX and higher trims include LaneWatch, while the optional navigation system adds the multi-angle reversing camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards patience and comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 283 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.21% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,167 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $11,209 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,080 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to buyers but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to move it quickly.

Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially for a model with a reputation for reliability and value. Well-kept examples should remain easier to sell than average compact cars because shoppers continue to look for dependable, efficient transportation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Honda Civic safe?

The 2014 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Civic’s safety package includes Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure and standard SmartVent front side-impact airbags. LaneWatch is standard on EX and higher trims, and the optional navigation system adds a multi-angle reversing camera with a 180-degree view. One caveat is that LaneWatch is described as more distracting than a traditional blind-spot information system.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 27.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more refinement and tech than many shoppers expect at this price.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,435 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,209 CAD average.
• It is described as meeting and exceeding small-car buyer preferences for reliability, safety, fuel efficiency, quality, and value.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it combines strong owner satisfaction with softer pricing. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly newer model year, the 2015 is the safer secondary path for buyers who prioritise a more recent example over upfront savings.
