What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan lineup includes DX, LX, EX, Touring, sporty Si, and Hybrid. The EX brings more equipment, including automatic climate control, a power sunroof, two USB ports, a security system, automatic headlights, LaneWatch, keyless entry with push-button ignition, a 7-inch display, upgraded audio, and HondaLink. The Touring adds leather seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, fog lights, 17-inch wheels, navigation, satellite radio, and a multi-angle reversing camera.
• Powertrain: The main engine is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder with 143 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT on many trims. It is described as refined, with adequate power and a transmission that feels unobtrusive in normal driving.
• Safety package: The Civic uses Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, and SmartVent front side-impact airbags are standard. LaneWatch is standard on EX and higher trims, while the reversing camera is available and the multi-angle reversing camera comes with the optional navigation system.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen display, while LX includes Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, text messaging support, and a USB port. HondaLink and Siri Eyes Free are part of the tech story, but the system can take some getting used to.
• Fuel efficiency: The tested CVT powertrain is rated at 8.1 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway, and the test vehicle averaged 7.4 L/100 km.

Which 2014 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, Touring, sporty Si, and Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the least expensive way into the Civic sedan, but it is very bare-bones and only comes with a five-speed manual transmission.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the core comfort and convenience features you are most likely to want, including heated front seats, heated side mirrors, Bluetooth, music streaming, text messaging support, and a USB port.
• EX: Choose this if you want a more complete feature set, including automatic climate control, a power sunroof, keyless entry with push-button ignition, HondaLink, LaneWatch, and a 7-inch display.
• Touring: This is the most upscale sedan trim, with leather, a power driver’s seat, navigation, satellite radio, fog lights, and a reversing camera.
• Si: This is the enthusiast choice, with a revised suspension, more power, and larger wheels.
• Hybrid: This is the efficiency-focused trim, but it is a carry-over model and only available by special order.

The EX and higher trims add LaneWatch, while the optional navigation system adds the multi-angle reversing camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 285 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,167 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $11,184 CAD sits slightly below last year's $11,934 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Civic is currently a buyer-friendly used car, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. The year-round range shows there is still a meaningful ceiling above the current average, which can help if you are selling a well-kept example with desirable equipment. Strong reputation for reliability and value should continue to support demand, especially for cleaner, better-equipped trims.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Honda Civic safe?

The 2014 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Civic’s safety story is built around its Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, which is designed to better manage crash energy, and SmartVent front side-impact airbags are standard across the lineup. LaneWatch is standard on EX and higher trims, while the reversing camera is available and the multi-angle reversing camera comes with the optional navigation system. One caveat is that LaneWatch may feel more distracting than a traditional blind-spot system.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines safety, reliability, fuel efficiency, technology, and value in a refined compact sedan.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,330 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,184 CAD average.
• It is described as meeting and exceeding small-car buyer preferences for reliability, safety, fuel efficiency, quality, and value.

The bottom line: The 2014 is the better pick if you want the lower price and a strong all-round ownership experience. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2015 is the safer alternative for buyers who want a slightly fresher Civic and do not mind paying extra.
