Is the 2014 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.3/5 user-rated compact car with an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its excellent fuel efficiency, reliability, and low maintenance costs. It also comes through as a strong value for commuting and long drives, which fits the Corolla’s role as an affordable, everyday compact car. The trade-offs are familiar: some owners find it small for families and short on power.

Drivers describe it as reliable, dependable, and low maintenance, with strong value for everyday use. The expert review also frames it as a tremendously reliable addition to your garage, and the powertrain tuning is presented as working well to get the most out of the fuel-sipping four-cylinder. Toyota’s reputation for near-bulletproof durability also supports the case for long-term ownership.

For used buyers, the main risk is less about dependability and more about whether the car’s modest power and compact size fit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base CE is the most stripped-back choice, while higher trims add more convenience and style. Even the base trim gets LED headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB auxiliary port, but the S trim adds a sportier front fascia, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport buckets.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder with 132 hp in most trims, while the LE Eco is tuned for efficiency and makes 140 hp. Transmission choice matters too, since the CE and S can be had with a manual, while the CVT is standard on most other trims.
• Safety package: Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard across the lineup and includes vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and Smart Stop technology. The car also comes with eight standard airbags, front and rear crumple zones, an energy-absorbing steering column, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
• Infotainment: All trims include Bluetooth and a USB auxiliary port, and the Corolla is also available with Entune. Higher trims add hands-free voice controls.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual-transmission model is rated at 7.1 L/100 km city and 5.2 highway. The CE automatic uses 7.4 city and 5.4 highway, while the S and LE with the CVT use 6.8 city and 4.9 highway. The LE Eco is rated at 6.5 city and 4.6 highway.

Which 2014 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: CE, S, LE, LE Eco.

Here's the short version:

• CE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you LED headlights, Bluetooth, and a USB auxiliary port. If you want the lowest entry price and don’t need extra features, this is the trim to start with.
• S: This is the best-value pick if you want a little more personality. It adds a sportier look, a rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped steering, sport buckets, and CVT Sport mode with paddle shifters when equipped that way.
• LE: This is the more comfort-oriented choice if you want a standard CVT and a less bare-bones feel without stepping into the efficiency-focused Eco model.
• LE Eco: This trim is for buyers who prioritise fuel economy above all else, but the review suggests the extra cost does not bring enough real-world benefit to justify it.

Toyota’s Star Safety System is standard across all trims, so you do not need to move up the lineup for the core safety suite.

• Inventory: There are 166 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.

What is the 2014 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $11,770 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,620 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. Even so, the Corolla’s reputation for reliability and low ownership costs should continue to support demand from practical used-car shoppers. If you keep the car in good condition and choose a well-equipped trim, you should have a decent chance of holding value better than many rivals.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 marks the start of the Corolla’s eleventh generation and focuses on efficient, reliable daily motoring.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,480 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,770 CAD average.
• It adds a bit more style while staying sensible and reliable.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the stronger buy right now because pricing is softer and inventory is decent. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly fresher take on the same practical formula, the 2015 is worth a look.
