Very little heat and cooling fan runs as soon as I start the engine?

Asked by Guru9DFD77 Nov 16, 2020 at 09:30 PM about the 2020 Honda CR-V LX AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently purchased a brand new 2020 Honda CRV LX model, and I have
recently noticed that I have very little heat.
The temp level on the temp gauge is running around the half way mark,
however inside the cabin of the vehicle it is really cold. One morning, the first
ground cover of snow of the year I let the CRV run for 10-15 mins before
leaving for work and it had barely started to thaw off. I drove about 20
minutes to work and it was still hardly thawed off and it was cold in the cabin.
However the temperature outside is nothing compared to what it is going to
be like in a couple of months for temperature outside.
Since determining that there is a problem (I think) of some sort, I have found
out that the cooling fan begins to run as soon as I start the engine, no matter
how hot/cold the engine is. Is this normal for Honda CRV's to do this?
Is anyone else having problems with very little heat in their CRV?

Take it right back to your local Honda Dealer! Document this in case this becomes a Lemon Law dispute!! If they have to keep it you want a free loaner car too!! Hope that helps! Jim

If you are referring to the big fan at the front of the engine bay then yes this fan runs 100% of the time and is hard attached to the pulley system of the engine. The engine temp really doesn't have much to do with the fact your heater is not producing much heat. And there is no issue with having the engine bay fan run even if it is truly bitter colde outside. The engine should perform well below freezing as long as the appropriate coolant is in the resovoir and the appropriate grade oil used for your climate. However I agree with Jim above, take it to the dealer and even if it was purchased within the year they should be able to help you. Stuff like this is fairly common with new model runs.

Matticon: when you say the big fan at the front of the engine bay… I don’t see a big fan, but I see 2 smaller ones. And these are the two that I am referring to. Are we talking about the same thing?

Sorry to be confusing. Crv's have a side mounted engine so the fan is not as I described. But yes for you there are two fans at the front that should be on any time the car starts, they should cycle on and off depending on temperature conditions of the coolant in the engine. But most likely will always come on when the engine starts or if the ac is running.
