My 2002 hyundai sonata will not shift except from Neutral to Reverse

Asked by shambill Feb 24, 2014 at 03:57 AM about the 2002 Hyundai Sonata V6 GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After 2 hour drive, I noticed the shift was very sluggish when I tried to park. An hour later, I couldn't start the car in park until I forced it to Neutral and it could only shift to Reverse, I had to cancel my garage appointment.

i presume this is automatic : either the ignition switch was not on, or the safety switch is faulty. forcing any part on a car is not recommended can damage other parts very easily when forcing.
