I have a 1999 Chevy suburban goes in to reverse gear but does nothing was working fine minutes before

If forward works it's most likely an electronic solenoid in the trans. If reverse used to work fine I would have to say its not a mechanical failure, and with forward working fine it's probably not the pump or fluid level.
