Remote start

Asked by Floridamatty May 23, 2019 at 03:21 PM about the 2013 RAM 1500 Sport Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Having trouble using my remote start with the
fob. Nothing is happening yet the lock/unlock
and panic alarm all work. I also changed the
battery in it but still. Any suggestions or other
things to look at would be a great help.
Thanks

Is your check engine light on? Some car models will disable remote start if it has codes in the PCM or if the engine light is on. It's a safety feature that newer models have incorporated. In case something serious is happening. This is to protect the engine and also to protect the companies from lawsuits.

I would have it checked with an expensive diagnostic tool. Sometimes the engine light will not be on, but there's codes in the system. You can also try disconnecting the battery and touch both positive and negative for 5 minutes. BE VERY CAREFUL THEY DON'T TOUCH METAL! Have someone go inside the car as you're doing this and just press all the buttons and stomp on the brake pedal. This will discharge any juice left in the car. Then connect everything again and see if the remote start works. If not, go to any autozone and see if the remote start button is sending signal. Could be the fob? Good luck!
