2001 Dodge Ram hard start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If I turn it on, but don't start and repeat the process 2 more times, it fires
right up. I thought maybe clogged check valve. So I"ve ran 3 tanks of fuel
cleaner through it. Still have the problem. I have no issues when driving. It
had a complete tune up 3 months ago. If I start it about 30 min after its sat,
it starts. Any length after that, I have to turn it 3 times and then start. If I turn
it once and hold it, it will start after 6 seconds.

it is most likely the anti flow back valve in the fuel pump failing when the truck sits for extended periods all the fuel drains back out of the lines and when you try to start it the lines have to re pressurize before it will start one way to get around it til you replace the fuel pump is to turn the key to the on position ( you can probably hear the fuel pump kick on ) after about 3-5 seconds the lines will be pressurized enough to start the truck without excessive use of the starter.
