New PCM, only runs for a couple seconds

Asked by twinsaregreat2 May 11, 2017 at 06:38 AM about the 2002 Dodge Durango SLT Plus 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought an 02 Durango 4x4 5.9l.. Guy said
PCM was bad, so they got one from an
earlier year model, 99 I think, and put on it. It
runs and drives fine, just no gauges and all
idiot lights on. I ordered a reman PCM and
put it on. Turned key on, all gauges worked,
only normal idiot lights, but when I start it, it
only runs a couple seconds. Security light
stays lit. Put the 99 PCM back on, runs fine,
still no gauges. Ordered another reman
PCM, put it on, same thing with the first
reman PCM. I don't know if it's security
issues or something else. I can tell the
steering column has been taken apart
before and there's a black box right next to
the ignition switch that's too clean to match
the rest of the truck. If that's part of the
chipped key sensor and it's been replaced,
could it maybe be security locking the PCM?
And how do I correct this? Truck runs too
good to give up on. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Needs to be programmed for anti-theft. Check with a local locksmith if they can do that otherwise it will have to go to the dealership.
