Flex fuel vs. Reg gas

Asked by Mustards Jan 25, 2018 at 09:04 PM about the 2011 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 F150 5.0 Flex fuel. When i use E85, truck runs
like a bull, but purrs like a kitten. When i use regular gas, I
hear valves chatter. Sounds almost like lifter chatter, but
motor runs strong! Not sure what I'm hearing and why.

Try some mid grade or premium fuel to see if the noise goes away. E-85 is about 100+ octane and that is what is stopping the pinging. You truck should not be pinging with regular fuel. Is the check engine light on? How many miles on it?

Change your spark plugs. I had the same problem I have a 2010 with a 113,00. I changed them because I wasn’t sure if they ever were changed before me. Purrs like a kitten.
