What could be causing my car to shake?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Tonight as I was coming up to a stoplight my car began to shake and the check engine
light came on. When I stopped at the light it quit shaking and the light went off, but as I
pulled away from the stoplight it began to shake even worse and the engine light came
back on. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

More than likely a missfire, this can only be checked by scanner to narrow the possibiltys, but could be fuel filter stopped up,bad plug or wire,or coil going bad.

That was the first thing that popped into my head was that something wasn't firing or a spark plug was bad. I will just have to take it and have diagnostics run. Thank you!
