What could be wrong

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drove my 2002 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 5
minutes away from my house to get my kid from
my parents house. It had no problem getting there.
Drove as usual. I left it running went in for about 3
or 4 minutes. Went back out to leave. Walking
around to the driver side it smelled like a candle
was blew out. I got in went to back out and turn.
Was really hard to turn (had to force it) driving it
half way back it started smoking. Got into driveway
popped the hood. There was antifreeze all over the
motor. Coolant tank was completely empty. Power
steering fluid was full. Nothing said it needed to be
checked like it normally does when something is
low. Not sure what could be wrong. Any help would
be much appreciated.

Look/see if your serpentine belt ("fan belt") broke. This would explain no power steering and overheating from water pump not turning. This belt also runs the alternator...volt gauge would be below the normal 14 volts idling. If the belt failed, check that all pulleys are turning freely before replacing belt. There is a "belt routing" diagram inside, under the hood. Easy fix if that's it.
