Here's the dum answer: its an electrical problem. Almost all electrical problems boil down to the same couple of things. Lack of electricity from blown fuse, bad relay, defective pcm or ecm, broken or shorted wire, bad/loose connection/jack, and/or bad/corroded/loose ground. The other problem is when the pcm or ecm incorrectly command components to do the wrong thing at the wrong time because of a faulty signal they are receiving from sensor(s) in the vehicle. In your case.....hope that it is simply a bad main ground strap for the pcm. If it is simply corroded and or loose you can clean it up and tighten it up and all may be well. Hope for that. Otherwise it can get really involved.
