loud fan or refridgerator noise from front vent on 2004 mercdes s430

all working great but a loud sound (sounds like a fan or fridge running) coming from the fron vent. on a hot day it comes on after about 5 minutes but on a cool day it comes on about 30 minutes into driving. it does not shut off (shutting off auto climate control does not work). Only turning off the engine and taking out the key will stop the noise.....any guidance appreciated

On my SL - sometimes it sounds like a jet engine. The sound is coming from the engine compartment. Local MB dealer says all is okay. Whatever sensor that controls fan speed is supposedly functioning correctly.

Bet you a beer its the bearing on the belt driven fan. They use a very stretchy belt difficult to change... St 150k miles or more the fan bearings when running, you can actually reach in with it running with a glove on snd push in on the fan center( its smooth) and pitch will change according to how hard you push....
