elevated idle, any suggestions

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 explorer v6 - reman Jasper engine  two years ago and 40K on engine.  Idle seems high, about 1000 RPM.  Runs great, maybe, just maybe, a little rough at idle, but so slight I'm the only one who would notice.  Have heard normal is somewhere around around 6 to 700 rpm.  Any ideas?  Sure hope it is a screwdriver or small wrench job.

Thanks Dave: If memory serves I thought the idle was high when I picked up the vehicle after having the new engine installed. But I contributed it to a reman engine. I do not drive at all since at that point I gave it to a family member to drive. But here is a little additional info. With a cold engine upon startup the engine will idle at about 1200 rpm. After warmup it will drop to 1000 rpm's in neutral or park. Shifting to drive or park will cause the engine to drop to 900.

correction - drive or reverse.

That's just about normal....my car idles at 800, 1000 idle with A/C on, 1000 cold for about 4..5 minutes. So that may even be factory default, but even if not it's not all that far off.
