HELP!! '99 Land Rover Disco II making loud ticking noise only while accelerating

Asked by LRD2OU Jan 05, 2014 at 07:36 PM about the Land Rover Discovery Series II

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ticking noise only occurs when accelerating. Topped off coolant when the engine
overheated a few months back. Also just replaced spark plugs 2,4,6&8 a few months ago
and noticed ticking noise ever since..... Any suggestions/idea of what is causing the
noise??

Sounds like a lifter sticking due to overheating. Change the oil and filter, use a bottle of Lucas oil treatment in place of a quart of oil and also add a bottle of STP oil treatment.
