Either there is a problem with the shift column, or the pressure plate is not releasing the clutch or a problem with the transmission or linkage, assuming it is a standard transmission.

If its an automatic transmission you might have a problem with the modulator valve on the transmission, you either have lost vacuum to it or the modulator valve has quit working, it may be time to change it.
