Engine surges while driving 2006 Honda Pilot

While driving at about 40mph the engine rpms go up and down, is this a trans issue?

Hey! I had a similar problem randomly for years off and on and nobody could figure it out. Then this weird thing happened where it wouldn't accelerate over 40 on the highway and when I took it in the mechanic told me it was a compression cylinder problem and that it's about $2500 to fix. I LOVED my pilot but just had to give it up. Good luck.
