It takes 3 times - or more - to start car after sitting overnight

Asked by jeannette4077 Jan 02, 2013 at 06:46 PM about the 1993 Toyota Camry

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Seems like it's trying to start and finally does - runs fine after that even with many stops and starting.
Mechanic says needs fuel pump and is quoting almost $400 - sound like that could be the problem?

Can you hear the pump run when you turn the key to "On"? Try turning to "On" several times without turning the engine over. That should pressurize the fuel rail for quicker starting. It might buy you time to shop around if you need a fuel pump.
