Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 Subaru impreza, recently it seemed like it needed power steering fluid, I did add some & it seemed to help a little...but the steering wheel is hard to turn when I began driving it...any thoughts on what this could be??  Once I begin driving it it seems fine & easy to turn...

Your power steering pump might be on the way out.

Hey All. Please, don't just swap out the expensive pump right away, check the entire system, the reservoir (you may need PSF/ATF fluid replacement), the lines connecting it to the PS pump etc. (they may be touching up against hot engine components or have come out of their little plastic 'C' shaped 'fasteners' somehow- I suspect a dirty mechanic in my case), and see that all the bolts are in place (one was missing near my PS pump and engine area). Also look up a guy named Justin Stobb online who could save you $$$ on your repair. While it could be you need a pump replaced, that seems to be the first knee-jerk reaction everyone seems to think about the whole Subaru Power Steering trouble issue.
