Just about to sell my car & the battery light has flashed up! M class merc, what should I do & what could it be?

It could be that your alternator died. Check the battery voltage. It should be 12.5 volts with the engine off. It should be 14.5 volts with the engine running.

Is it the battery light or the small screen in the middle of the instrument cluster giving the message. Is the message in white or red?
