The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid showcased a modern and sleek design with significant styling updates. Its front fascia featured a streamlined look with a single slim lightbar, known as the “seamless horizon lamp,” giving it a contemporary flair. The badge was repositioned above the grille, and the headlights were placed independently below it, drawing a clear family resemblance to the Hyundai Ioniq 6 while avoiding some of its more polarizing design elements. The rear end of the Sonata, already equipped with a lightbar, now resembled the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe, forming a wide “H” shape with the taillights. From the side, the 2024 Sonata maintained a similar profile to the 2023 model, with standard 18-inch alloy wheels on the Preferred-Trend trim and 19-inch wheels on the N Line trim in Canada. The interior saw changes with a redesigned dash, a new T-shaped steering wheel, and a relocated gear shifter to the steering column, enhancing the overall driving experience.

In contrast, the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta received a much-needed design refresh, addressing previous criticisms of its unresolved detailing. The new front and rear styling, revised wheel designs, and fresh paint colours like Monterey Blue Pearl gave the Jetta a more premium and appealing appearance. The interior was upgraded with nicer materials and a redesigned dashboard, featuring an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and dual-zone automatic climate control. However, the touch-sensitive controls for the climate system were found to be distracting. In Canada, the Jetta was available in Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline trims, with a Sport package option for the Comfortline trim. The Highline trim offered leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, and upgraded digital instrumentation, enhancing the overall comfort and style of the vehicle.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid introduced an all-wheel drive (AWD) system for the first time, available on the Preferred-Trend trim for an additional $2,000. The Preferred-Trend trim featured a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. An eight-speed automatic transmission transferred power to the front wheels, with no AWD option available. The Jetta's fuel economy was rated at 7.4 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving by Natural Resources Canada, though testing in hot conditions resulted in an average of 8.9 L/100 km. The Jetta's sport-tuned suspension, standard on all but the base Trendline, provided a firmer and more enjoyable driving experience, especially on twisty roads. Despite the firmer settings, the Jetta remained a comfortable commuter, with highway fuel economy as low as 7.4 L/100 km.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid offered competitive interior space, with 975 millimetres of front-seat headroom and 950 mm of rear-seat headroom. Front legroom was prioritized with 1,170 mm, while rear-seat passengers received 885 mm. Heated and ventilated front seats were standard in the Preferred-Trend trim, with a slimmer steering wheel rim for added comfort. The trunk close button was a neat convenience feature, though not entirely necessary for a sedan.

The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta provided a roomy interior for a compact sedan, with comfortable front and rear seats and a 399-litre trunk. The Highline trim featured leather seats, power-adjustable driver's seat, and heated and ventilated front seats. The dual-zone automatic climate control system and ventilated front seats effectively combated extreme temperatures, though the touch-sensitive climate control panel was found to be displeasing and distracting. The Jetta's previous temperature control knobs were more user-friendly, allowing adjustments without looking away from the road.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid featured a selectable USB-C port, allowing users to switch between data-transmitting and charging-only modes, a handy feature for wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The curved display combined the infotainment touchscreen and driver-information display into a single panel, with the N Line offering a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
